LED Lighting

LED Lighting

LED lighting is one of the most significant green technologies available today. RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) compliant LED bulbs contain virtually no toxic materials, are recyclable and produce little infrared light and almost no UV emissions. By using LED lighting, you help to reduce your carbon footprint. There are a variety of ways you can use LED lighting for your landscape including highlighting your garden & lawn, patio, walkway(s), pool deck and outdoor kitchen. It is also great for use as accent lighting, spot lighting, and night lighting.

What is LED light?

Simply put, LED light is a light source that will save you up to 80% in your energy costs over conventional light bulbs. That is why it is a smart choice to convert your energy guzzling conventional incandescent landscape lighting system to an LED lighting system. For the more technically inclined, LED (Light Emitting Diode) uses light emitting diodes to produce light in a very efficient manner. When an electrical current passes through the semiconductor material it produces what is called “electroluminescence” and it illuminates the tiny light sources we call LEDs.

Why use LED lighting in your landscape?

Longer lifespan

The lifespan of an LED lamp is approximately 10,000 hours. This translates to 11 years of continuous operation versus the approximate 2,000 hours the traditional incandescent bulb offers.

Unlike compact fluorescent light bulbs, LED lights that are RoHS compliant are manufactured without mercury and other banned substances such as lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, etc. thus making them safer as household and landscaping lighting choices. In addition, LED lights do not emit ultraviolet rays which makes them less likely to attract insects at night.

Reduced power consumption

Around 80 percent of energy is consumed by illumination, while 20 percent turns to heat. Conventional incandescent bulbs produce 80 percent heat and 20 percent illumination. LED lighting produces the same amount of light but consumes less energy.

LEDs are extremely durable, shock proof, vibration resistant and built with sturdy components. This makes them a better alternative compared to conventional bulbs.
